The SERIES RM Rate-Master® Flowmeters are a line of general use, direct reading precision flowmeters suitable for both gas and liquid applications. This Series consists of 2" (51 mm), 5" (127 mm) and 10" (254 mm) scales that can be panel or surface mounted with optional precision metering valves. Within a given Series, the Rate-Master® flowmeter bodies can be instantly interchanged, allowing the piping to remain undisturbed, interchangeability of the ranges, and easy cleaning.

    The SERIES VA Variable Area Glass Flowmeters are designed with easy to read universal mm scale and supplied with correlation charts containing calibration data for air and water.

     

    Glass flowmeters are suitable for metering carrier gases, liquid and gas measurement in pilot plants, laboratories, process flow and level indicating. Units are equipped with a standard 6-turn needle valve for flow rate control. High precision metering valves with non-rising stems (sold separately) are available for high sensitivity control and resolution - particularly suited for very low flow rates.

     

    Flowmeters are shipped completely assembled and ready for panel mounting. Use an optional acrylic tripod base to convert to self-standing bench mounting.

    Location:

    Select a location where the flowmeter can be easily read and where the temperature will not  exceed 200°F (93°C).
    The mounting surface and piping to the flowmeter should be free from excessive vibration. If pulsing flow or vibration causes excessive pointer oscillation, contact factory for ways to provide additional dampening.

    Piping:
    • Inlet Piping: It is good practice to approach the flowmeter inlet with as few elbows, restrictions, and size changes as possible. Inlet pipe should be  as  close  to  the  flowmeter  connection  size  as  practical  to  avoid turbulence which can occur with drastic size changes. The length of inlet piping has little effect on normal pressure-fed flowmeters.
    • Discharge Piping:  Piping on the discharge side should be at least as large as the flowmeter connection.
    • Zero  Setting:  The  RMV  Rate-Master®flowmeter  is  calibrated  and zeroed in a specific (normally vertical) position at the factory. If the gage is used in any other position, it may be necessary to adjust the zero setting. Position changes can aversely affect accuracy. If re-zeroing is required, hold the brass case firmly with one hand and turn the grey bezel cover counterclockwise to remove. Next, lift off the plastic cover. Hold the 5/32 ̋ diameter brass knob below the pointer axis stationery  and  adjust  the  rectangular  brass  blade  between  axis  and knob.  Repeat adjustments as necessary until flowmeter reads exactly zero when held in its intended mounting position. To replace the cover, align the (2) 1/8 ̋ slots on the edge with matching 1/8 ̋ projections on the case adjacent to the pointer bumpers.  Install the bezel ring, hold cover in place with palm of hand and turn ring clockwise until tight.

    Operation:

    If flowing media is likely to be dirty, install a 50 micron filter upstream from the flowmeter. Once all connections are complete, introduce flow slowly to avoid possible damage. With liquid flow, it may be necessary to purge air from the system before reading staabilize. No lubrication or periodic servicing is required. Keep case exterior, including front cover, clean for best visibility.

    Inlet Piping:
    It is a good practice to approach the flowmeter with as few elbows, restrictions and size changes as possible. Inlet piping should be as close to the flowmeter connection size as possible to avoid turbulence which can occur with drastic size changes. The length of inlet piping has little effect on normal pressure fed flowmeters.

    Because the device operates through a magnetic coupling system, magnetic material near the flow block can affect accuracy. To minimize the effect of outside interference, keep magnetic materials at least 3 inches (7.6 cm) away from the unit.

    The Series OP Orifice Plate Flowmeter is a complete orifice plate flow metering package. It incorporates a stainless steel orifice plate with a unique holder or carrier ring containing metering taps and integral gaskets. It was designed for use wherever there is an application for a conventional flow orifice plate. It can also be used in place of other primary differential producers for efficiency and cost effectiveness. Installation is accomplished simply by slipping the unit between standard flanges (orifice flanges are not required). The Series OP is available in line sizes from 1/2" to 24" and can be used with compatible liquids and gases.

      Accuracy:

      • The Series OP utilizes the corner tap proportions as defined in ISO 5167. While this code may not be referred to as International Standard until accepted by the ISO Council, the ASME Fluid Meters Research Committee has suggested that the dimensionless coefficient equation developed by the International Standards Organization (ISO) and presented in ISO 5167 is significantly better for the broad spectrum of flow measurement applications throughout process industries.
      • The coefficient values used in the Series OP bore calculations represent the same confidence level assigned to the flange and radius taps widely accepted in fluid flow measurement.
      • The accuracy assigned to the coefficient values is ±0.6% full scale flow for d/D (Beta) values 0.2 to 0.6 and ±0.7% for Beta values 0.7 to 0.75 (i.e. ß of 0.7 would have an uncertainty value of ±0.7% full scale flow).
      • Accuracy of the differential signal produced by the Series OP equals or exceeds that of a properly manufactured and installed flange or radius tap orifice meter.


      Mounting:
      The orifice metering primary shall be suitable for installation between standard ANSI 125/150# flanges (any material) mounted on standard pipe (any material). The unit shall be "self centering" within the bolt circle of the flanges. No alignment of the orifice shall be necessary unless used with 300# or non-standard flange ratings. Drilling and or tapping of the main or flanges will not be allowed or required. The overall laying length shall be 1.25 ¿¿ including pre-attached ring type 1/8 ¿¿ thick Buna "N" Gaskets.

      Pipe Requirements:
      Upstream and downstream pipe requirements are contingent upon two factors: (a) Beta Ratio-ratio of the orifice bore to the pipe I.D.         Mounting:
        Location:
        The flow tube should be installed with minimum 8 diameters of pipe run ahead and 5 diameters of pipe run after. This will ensure steady flow and accurate readings.

        Installation:
        The meter can be installed in a vertical or horizontal position. The Magnehelic ® gage must be positioned such that it is read in a horizontal orientation. The meter comes in a horizontal left to right configuration. If a vertical orientation is required remove the three mounting screws (1) from the back of the Magnehelic ® gage, reposition the gage within the bracket and re-tighten the screws.

        The Magnehelic ® gage can be mounted remotely from the meter. If this is done make sure to keep the Magnehelic ® gage above the Venturi Flow Tube assembly. Condensation may collect in the tube if it is below the gage and cause false readings

        The Venturi Flow Tube must be connected in the correct orientation. For example, in a left to right flow, the high pressure side which is on the left connects to the high pressure port on the Magnehelic ® gage. The low pressure side is on the right and connects to the low pressure port of the Magnehelic ® gage.

            Installation:
            Carefully unpack switch and remove any packing material from lower housing. Trim the vane at the appropriate mark for the size of pipe being used.
            Caution: Mechanical shock or vibration can cause permanent damage to the reed switch. Take care to avoid dropping the unit on hard surfaces or impacting the switch assembly.

            Apply pipe thread sealant tape or pipe thread sealant to the 1/2 ¿¿ male NPT mounting threads and install switch in the system piping with the arrow on side pointing in the direction of flow.
            Connect wiring in accordance with local electrical codes.

            Inductive, capacitive and lamp loads can all create conditions harmful to the reed switch.

            • Inductive loads can be caused by electromagnetic relays, electromagnetic solenoids and electromagnetic counters, all with inductive components as the circuit load.
            • Capacitive loads can be caused by capacitors connected in series with or parallel to the reed switch.
            • In a closed circuit the cable length (150 ft. or more) to the switch can introduce a capacitance Lamp loads can be caused by switching lamp filaments which have low cold resistance.


            In addition to these causes, exceeding any of the maximum electrical ratings can lead to premature or immediate failure. This includes inrush and surge currents greater than the maximum switching current. Use caution when evaluating system loads and current. To accommodate these conditions, see diagrams on the reverse which depict possible solutions.

            After installation, set the switch action to NO (normally open) or NC (normally closed). Normally closed contacts open and normally open contacts close when increasing flow actuates the reed switch. To change, loosen, but do not remove, the two screws on the top cap. Slide the reed switch assembly to expose the switch action selected. Tighten screws when adjustment is complete.

              Installation:

              • The Model V8 Flow Switch is intended for use in clean, compatible process media free from scale, debris and other foreign matter which might collect on the vane an impede its movement. Buildup from such materials will prevent proper operation.
              • Carefully unpack the switch being certain to remove any packing material which might have become lodged between the switch housing and the vane assembly. Note the pipe size indicators molded into the vane. By trimming at the mark corresponding to the pipe size being used, approximate actuation/deactuation flows will be as shown in the charts at right. These values apply to installations with a thred-o-let, branch connection or plastic fitting. If using standard 125-250 lb. bronze, iron or steel fittings, trim the vane 0.125 ¿¿ above the mark. Due to variations in fittings and amount of thread engagement, vane must be checked for proper operation.
              • The flow switch must be properly indexed during installation. The arrow on the side must point in the direction of flow.
              • Use Teflon® thread tape or other suitable pipe joint compound to seal the 1 ¿¿ NPT mounting connection. Avoid excess sealant which could interfere with vane movement and prevent proper operation. Do not exceed 50 ft/lbs (40 n/m) torque on the switch housing. Damage can result.
              • Wire in accordance with local electrical codes. Lead wire colors are as follows: Black - Common, Red - Normally Open, Blue - Normally Closed.                 Installation:
                Unpack and remove any packing material found in the lower housing. Install in piping with the arrow pointing in the direction of flow. The switch must be installed vertically on horizontal pipe runs. To ensure a steady working flow, make certain to keep the paddle flow switch a safe distance from sources of turbulence such as elbows, valves, pumps, etc. The recommended minimum distance upstream and downstream of the flow switch is about 5 times the pipe’s diameter.

                Maintenance:
                Inspect and clean wetted parts at regular intervals. The cover should be in place at all  times  to  protect  the  internal  components  from  dirt,  dust,  and  weather. Disconnect the device from the supply circuit before opening to prevent ignition of hazardous atmosphere.

                    The SERIES TDFS Thermal Flow Switch uses impulse thermal dispersion measurement technique to indicate whether the flow rate is above or below a user set flow rate. It provides NO and NC NPN outputs and two LED, one green and one red for high and low set point indication.

                    Electrical Connection:
                    The power input and switched outputs are individually fused at 0.5A and are reverse polarity protected. A shielded 4 conductor cable provides the electrical connection to the TDFS. The cable drain wire must be connected to earth ground in CE applications or when strong RF fields are present.

                    Setpoint Adjustment:
                    The setpoint may be adjusted with the supplied magnet. There are two setpoint targets on the unit located under the LED status indicator on opposite sides of the unit . Either setpoint target may be used, and either end of the magnet may be used. If the setpoint does not set easily, try reversing the magnet.

                    Maintenance:
                    Upon final installation of the Series TDFS, no routine maintenance is required. The Series TDFS is not field serviceable and should be returned if repair is needed. Field repair should not be attempted and may void warranty.

                          The SERIES PFT Insertion Paddlewheel Flowmeters are used to monitor liquid flow rates in pipes from 1-1/2 to 40" and is available in brass or 316 SS body. The unit outputs a frequency proportional pulsed or 4 to 20 mA output. The pulse models are a square wave output signal with frequency proportional to the flow velocity and the 4 to 20 mA models have a linear output of the velocity with 4 mA equal to 0 ft/s and 20 mA equal to 25 ft/s.

                              The SERIES MFS Magnetic Inductive Flow Sensor is a compact, low cost alternative to paddle wheel sensors. Unlike sensors with moving parts, the MFS can be applied in applications dealing with contaminated media. This series provides a reliable measuring technique, an obstruction free pipe cross-section, as well as a quick response time, making this series ideal for interference free operation. Any change in temperature, density, viscosity, concentration or electrical conductivity of the liquid, does not affect the output signal of this Magnetic Inductive Flow Sensor. This, in addition to its long-life cycle, makes this series perfect for accurate reversible gauging of volume flow of conductive liquids in closed piping.


                              Principles of Operation:
                              The measuring pipe is in a magnetic field. If an electrically conductive medium with a certain flow passes through the pipe, it passes at a right-angle to the magnetic field, creating a voltage which is proportional to the average flow velocity and picked up by two electrodes within the MFS. A frequency output signal is obtained that is proportional to the flow (analog output option available).

                              The SERIES EFS2 Insertion Electromagnetic Flow Sensor is designed for pipe sizes from 1 to 12" and comes in three different materials (stainless steel, brass and PVC).                               Principle Of Operation:
                              The EFS2 is a liquid flow meter that uses the conductivity of fluids to measure flow rate. Liquid flow through its magnetic field produces a voltage that is measured and translated into an output signal. It has a pulse frequency output which can be used with the Series RTI to indicate flow rate and total, as well as the Series BAT signal converter which provides an analog signal.

                              Principles Of Operation:

                                Two sensors are placed on the exterior of the pipe, and each transmits an ultrasonic pulse through the pipe and fluid to the other. The velocity of the liquid flowing through the pipes causes the pulse to accelerate or decelerate. The difference in the transit times of the two pulses is used to calculate the flow rate. The use of transit time allows the flowmeter to be unaffected by pressure or temperature changes.

                                      Installation Instructions:

                                      • Thoroughly flush the service line upstream of the meter to remove dirt and debris.
                                      • Remove meter spud thread protectors.
                                      • Set the meter in the line. Install in a horizontal plane, with the register upright, in a location accessible for reading, service and inspection. Arrows on the side of the meter and above the outlet spud indicate the direction of flow.
                                      • For accurate measurement, the tap height should be higher than the meter.
                                      • Do not over-tighten connections; tighten only as required to seal. Do not use pipe sealant tape on meter threads.
                                      • With upstream shut-off valve only: Open shut-off valve slowly, to remove air from meter and service line. Open a faucet slowly to allow entrapped air to escape.


                                      With both upstream and downstream shut-off valves installed. To test the installation for leaks: Close the outlet (downstream) shut-off valve. Open the inlet (upstream) shut-off slowly until meter is full of water. Open the outlet (downstream) valve slowly until air is out of the meter and service line. Open a faucet slowly to allow entrapped air to escape. Close the faucet.

Accessories include adapters with 1/4" SAE 45° flared ends compatible with hoses supplied with the Model A-471 Portable Capsuhelic® Gage Kit.

                                         

                                        The Series DS-400 Averaging Flow Sensors are designed for insertion lengths up to 24" (61 cm) and include a pair of 1/8" NPT x 1/4" SAE 45° flared adapters which are compatible with hoses used in the Model A-471 Portable Capsuhelic® Gage Kit. The supplied solid brass mounting adapter has a 3/4" dia. compression fitting to lock in required insertion length and a 3/4" male NPT thread for mounting in a threaded branch connection (not included).

                                        Features:
                                        • Multiple sensing point measurement and built-in averaging capability eliminates the need for “traversing” the flowing stream with single point velocity pressure measurement saving time
                                        • Extremely reliable, proven technology, Pitot tubes, have been used in flow measurement for years
                                        • All models include convenient and quick-acting quarter-turn ball valves to isolate the sensor for zeroing with 1/8" female NPT valve assembly process connections.
                                        • Furnished with instrument shut-off valves on both pressure connections with 1/8" female NPT connections rated at 200 psig (13.7 bar) and 200°F (93.3°C)
                                        • Where valves are not required, they can be omitted at reduced cost
                                        • The Series DS-400 Averaging Flow Sensors are quality constructed from extra strong 3/4" dia. stainless steel to resist increased forces encountered at higher flow rates with both air and water
                                        • Economical flow indication when used with appropriate differential pressure gage
                                        • Rugged construction yields, non-clogging, stable design

All the types feature a removable window for easy service and replacement of wearing parts.

                                        SERIES  SFI-300F Sight  Flow  Indicators  offer  ANSI  flange  process  connections, double viewing windows, and bodies of carbon steel or 316 SS. The SFI-350F type has a double window with no moving indicator and the SFI-360F type has a double window with a flapper.
